New Board Member

We would like to welcome Frank Berch to the JM2Z family. He has officially been nominated, voted in, and accepted a role as a member of our Board of Directors. Frank has been a long-time supporter (in many ways) of JM2Z and we are blessed that he is willing to offer his wisdom and experience. He brings plenty of relevant skills to the table, such as years of previous board experience, church leadership, biblical training, teaching, and team building. Frank and his wife live in Wyoming. We are glad to add him to our team!

Mission Team

We are very excited to have our mission team arriving here at the end of the week! Please be in prayer for their travel from Oregon. They fly out on Wednesday and arrive here in Harare on Friday. They will be helping us with many different projects, but the VBS and sewing seminar (for the Wednesday group, with sewing machines) will be the two main ones. We were disappointed that the chicken seminar was once again rescheduled and moved to next Wednesday, which was our scheduled middle day of the sewing seminar. We had to move some things around, but just like many times before, we have to be flexible with dates and times :-)

In addition to all of the supplies we bought in South Africa, we have also been buying food that we need for lunches during VBS. Below are two pictures of me grinding moringa leaves from our tree into a powder, that we will sprinkle into the children's food for extra vitamins.

Tuesday Group

The Tuesday group ladies are flying through their sewing projects. The most recent one was a pin cushion that can be snapped to their wrists so they can always have their pins close by, without losing them, while working on a project. They were so proud of their accomplishment, which can be seen below. They have also finished a second one, which they will give as a gift to their friend that invited them from the Wednesday group. Today half the ladies also completed a small drawstring bag where they can keep their sewing supplies.

Wednesday Group

The ladies in the Wednesday group have been continuing with their beads. They have been cutting, rolling and gluing paper during the week and at group, they learn different jewelry making skills. All the rolled beads are strung and then I pick up 4 ladies at a time on other days to bring them to the house so they can dip them in varnish. It takes them about 2 hours to dip all of the beads once and they get dipped 3 times for durability and shine.

They have also been designing, creating, and finishing necklaces. We are impressed with how good they have turned out, since this is the first time they have done it. They are experimenting with various designs, colors, and shapes. Two samples can be seen below.

The group is also having good, quality biblical discussions during the devotional time. We can't wait until we get Shona Bibles in a few weeks, but that isn't stopping them from asking really good questions. Whether they are talking about Elijah and Elisha, Jesus being the Light of the world, prayer, or heaven and hell, their interest is growing and good seeds are being sown.

Glasses

The ladies we work with range in age, but many are middle-aged or older. Many times, they have trouble with their eyesight in working with intricate pins, needles, clasps, or beads. A couple of them have glasses, but most aren't able to afford them. We recently received a donation of 40-50 new pairs of glasses, including varying strengths. We gave them out in both groups, to those who were struggling to see. You should have seen their reactions when they put on glasses that worked for them and they saw how different words on a page looked when they could see them clearly. They were so surprised and shocked at how clear everything became. We wish we would have been able to capture more reactions on video, but the best one we got is below.

Prayer Requests

  • Safety in travel for the mission team
  • Safety and health while they are here
  • Good energy and health for Yolanda and me (Yolanda is feeling a cold coming on)
  • Continued relationship building for the women and their relationship with Jesus
  • The children's hearts during their time at VBS, that they would see who Jesus truly is and have a desire to know Him personally (VBS is a "last week of Christ" theme, including crucifixion and resurrection)
